Yoshimitsu is one of the most recognisable characters outside of the series even with his ever changing appearance, becoming a Namco Bandai staple. This has led fans to speculate about the connection between the two series and the history of the character. Additionally, an analogous character bearing the same name, weapon, clan, and background was later carried over into Namco’s Soul Series of fighting games, making his debut in Soul Calibur and once again returning for all of the sequels. Due to his unique look and fighting style he has proven popular amongst fans and he has returned for all subsequent sequels, becoming one of only four characters to do so, the others are Paul Phoenix, Nina Williams, and Heihachi Mishima.
